The Visual Mixtape! from Behance

Though this link (linked at the end of post) might be not Swiss-based, it still can be inspiration that strays from the old way of designing websites with boxes within boxes. I don’t really like how the text is placed because of legibility issues; but, what I do like is the color palette chosen to go with the impeccable background images.  Check it out here.

The Golden Rule

This post relates to The Golden Ratio. The  definition: In mathematics and the arts, two quantities are in the golden ratio if the ratio of the sum of the quantities to the larger quantity is equal to the ratio of the larger quantity to the smaller one. In short, think of geometric relationship.

End of the quarter

This quarter I took 4 classes all together and out of my 4 classes I would have to say, Digital Type was my most interesting class. Coming into this class, I had no idea what was planned for the course. At times this class gave me a headache, but I learned a lot about type that I didn’t know before. The blogs that we created were interesting, except for the fact that I knew nothing about blogs but now that were finally ending the class I’m thinking about starting my own blog on Tumblr ….. POSSIBLY. As for the Industry Websites. I had some what of a difficult time with that. One week I’d really like my design, then the next I hated it and was stuck with nothing. My mind went blank as for the concept of my design but for the final of my Industry Website I’m really satisfied with it.

Overall Quarter

I don’t blog but go ahead and laugh at my attempt. This quarter ….. enough said. It’s just a quarter that needs to be over already, and I’m glad it is. Just one of those quarters where your like PLEASE END. Overall, my grades are good so I really can’t complain. Toughened up and stuck it out. Goodbye 3rd quarter :)

Swiss iPhone

The other day I was looking at some Swiss Design for inspiration, and I came across this photo of an iPhone that someone had designed the lock screen using Swiss design. I instantly got really excited about this, but quickly found out it isn’t real. It’s just something someone designed for fun. I think that Apple should really consider designing an update for the iPhone like this. It just looks really awesome in my opinion, and now that I know I can’t have this on my phone, I feel a little sad.

Swiss Layout

As Swiss Design is based upon a clean layout, ornamentation never used, the actual design element is usually typography. When illustrations are used, they are in the form of simple geometric shapes with no shading, these shapes are also used to direct focus to the main body of content. Most common, however, would be the use of photography as imagery, especially photography that has been isolated or has had the background removed.

The end of Swiss?

I’m not sad to see this quarter end, but I have to say this assignment was pretty fun. It was definitely the least stressful thing I’ve done all quarter, so it was nice to have a fun assignment! I enjoyed this class a lot, and I’ve made a few new friends out of it as well, which is always a bonus.

grids

Inspiration of the week: grids used in web design and journalism

I was a freelance journalist before I came here to study at AI. While I am studying grids, I can’t help but to be nostalgic on the usage of grids in the newsroom!
